Flames steal one from Boston in OT
Feb 17, 2015 - 5:46 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Brodie scored the winning goal with just fractions of a second to play in overtime as the Calgary Flames rallied for a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Monday. As the clock was winding down, Brodie skated the puck down the right wing and threw a backhand out front that was tipped by a Boston stick and popped into the air. Tuukka Rask attempted to grab it with the glove, but was unable to get it, and the puck bounced off his back and went in to give the Flames the win.
Jiri Hudler had two goals and David Jones also lit the lamp for the Flames, who have won three of four. Karri Ramo was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots, while Jonas Hiller saved all 16 shots he faced in relief.
Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Brad Marchand all scored for the Bruins, who have dropped their past four games. Rask stopped 23 shots in defeat.
Boston defenseman Kevan Miller left the contest in the second period and did not return.
"We'll see what comes out, but it doesn't look good," Bruins coach Claude Julien said of Miller.
Calgary was trailing 3-1 entering the third but made it a one-goal game 3:22 in as Sean Monahan stopped a pass with his skate at the left circle and sent it to the right side where Hudler snapped it in.
It was Hudler again tying the game, and this one came on the power play as a faceoff win saw Mark Giordano send a shot on net from the high slot that Hudler redirected in for his 18th of the season.
"Those guys never quit. We always have the feeling that we can pull (out) those comebacks," Flames head coach Bob Hartley said.
Skating shorthanded, Boston scored the first goal of the game at 6:48 of the first period as Patrice Bergeron stole the puck in the neutral zone and skated down the right wing, charging the net and slipping a short pass over to the left where Marchand finished it off for his 16th of the season.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead at 11:27 of the first on a big one-timer from Chara at the left point.
It was 3-0 just 50 seconds into the second as Krug followed up a rush and was able to backhand the puck in for his 11th of the season.
Calgary, though, got on the board six minutes later when Jones charged down the left wing and powered his way to the front where he stuffed it in for his 11th of the season.
