Islanders explode in third to top Coyotes

Feb 25, 2015 - 4:06 AM Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Martin, Johnny Boychuk, Kael Mouillierat and Brock Nelson scored third-period goals to give the New York Islanders a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday.

Anders Lee also lit the lamp for the Islanders, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Chad Johnson made 27 saves.

Mark Arcobello scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who have lost seven in a row. Mike Smith gave up all five goals on 39 shots.

"It's embarrassing. I've never been so embarrassed as I have been this year to walk into arenas," Smith said. "I've had enough of it. It's simple plays that have to be made. When they don't get made and come back in your net, it's frustrating.

"Guys are trying, but it's got to go to a different level. It's not close enough to give ourselves a chance to win."

Martin broke a 1-1 tie at 3:18 of the third when he beat Smith from the low left circle. Less than a minute later, Boychuk scored from the high slot.

Mouillierat scored his first NHL goal at 7:16 to make it a 4-1 contest. He took a pass out from Colin McDonald and beat Smith with a one-timer.

"It's an unbelievable feeling," Mouillierat said. "You play so long and especially at my age to get my first crack at the NHL, there are times in the minors you think it's never going to happen and when it does, it's a pretty incredible feeling."

Nelson capped the scoring when he batted a rebound past Smith at 9:10.

Lee gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead 37 seconds into the second period. Travis Hamonic found Lee open in front of the net and the latter roofed a backhander past Smith.

Arcobello tied things up at 15:52 when his shot from the left circle beat Johnson.
