Dubnyk, quick strikes spur Wild win over Blues

Mar 15, 2015 - 4:11 AM St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Devan Dubnyk turned in a 41-save performance as Minnesota edged St. Louis, 3-1, at Scottrade Center.

Nino Niederreiter and Kyle Brodziak scored in a 17-second span in the latter stages of the third period and Thomas Vanek tallied earlier for the Wild, who have taken seven of their last nine games.

"It's a good feeling," said Brodziak. "We're in a good spot."

David Backes lit the lamp for the Blues, who saw their three-game win streak halted. Brian Elliott, fresh off a 28-save, 1-0 shootout win against the Flyers on Thursday, made just 16 stops in the loss.

"We need to have better production," said Backes. "We need to score more goals on 42 shots."

Niederreiter gave Minnesota a 2-1 lead with 6:33 left in the contest, tapping in a Mikko Koivu rebound that Elliott failed to corral properly.

Brodziak followed with the insurance tally on the following shift, as he was in the right place at the right time to backhand a puck lost off the stick of Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko.

After throwing 11 unsuccessful shots at Dubnyk in a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Backes gave the Blues a lead at 4:57 of the second by redirecting an Alex Steen point shot.

Vanek evened things just 46 seconds later by popping home a Justin Fontaine pass from the left side.

Dubnyk had lost each of his last seven appearances vs. the Blues ... Minnesota won in regulation at St. Louis for the first time since Oct. 20, 2007, a span where the Blues were 9-0-3 ... Elliott lost for the first time in seven career decisions against the Wild.
