Kesler, Ducks stun Kings in OT
Mar 19, 2015 - 6:23 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Kesler's goal at the 45-second mark of overtime lifted Anaheim to a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles at Honda Center.Kesler was allowed free rein with the puck to circle behind Quick, pull out into the right circle and score the winner on a wrister inside the far post.
"Kesler made a great play down low," said Kings coach Darryl Sutter.
Patrick Maroon and Jakob Silfverberg scored in the third period for the Ducks, who have won two in a row and six of their last nine and pulled ahead of both idle St. Louis and Montreal to top the NHL's point list with 97.
"It's always difficult to play against them, but our team has played well against them," said Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. "It's always a good test."
John Gibson finished with 29 saves.
Jeff Carter and Jason Williams tallied for the Kings, who had won three of four coming in.
Jonathan Quick turned aside 23 shots.
Only 16 seconds into the game's initial power play, Carter's blast from the right wing beat Gibson under the crossbar just after the midway point of the first period.
Maroon beat Quick 45 seconds into the third, shortly after Anaheim's carryover power play expired, tapping in a Ryan Getzlaf dish in front.
Silfverberg put the hosts ahead at 7:35, redirecting an Andrew Cogliano dish while Quick might have been restrained by traffic near his crease.
Williams pulled the Kings even with 4:14 left in regulation.
Game Notes
Anaheim won four of five games (4-0-1) in the season series from Los Angeles, and has won eight of its last nine contests against the defending Stanley Cup champions ... Kesler's goal was his 200th career marker.
