Ducks tie it late, beat Bruins in OT

Mar 27, 2015 - 3:22 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Getzlaf helped tie the game late in regulation and scored the winning goal in overtime as the Anaheim Ducks rallied to beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Thursday night.

Getzlaf fired a shot from above the right circle that was tipped in front by Corey Perry with 38.5 seconds remaining in the third period.

After the Ducks failed to convert on a power play in overtime, Getzlaf carried the puck across the Boston blueline and beat Tuukka Rask with a wrist shot from the high slot.

Patrick Maroon also scored for Anaheim and Frederik Andersen stopped 27 Boston shots.

"We were better all over the ice," said Getzlaf, who scored his franchise- best seventh career overtime goal. "We played a great team in Boston, and battled them right to the end. Those are things we want to establish down the stretch."

The Ducks are battling for home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs and tied the Rangers with 101 points. New York, though, has three games in hand.

Anaheim snapped a two-game losing streak and spoiled the return of Boston forward David Krejci, who assisted on both of the Bruins' goals. Krejci played against the Ducks after missing 15 games with a partially torn MCL in his left knee.

Even with Krejci back in the lineup, the Bruins' losing streak reached six games (0-3-3). Boston had a chance to retake the lead for the Eastern Conference's second wild-card spot with Ottawa losing to the Rangers on Thursday. The point moved the Bruins into a tie with the Senators, but Ottawa has a game in hand.

"Terrible feeling obviously...we played a great game and good kill there in the overtime and then a loss, so it's tough to swallow," said Rask, who made 29 saves in defeat.

Anaheim had a prime chance in the opening minute of the game, but Cam Fowler pushed his shot wide of the net.

The Ducks nearly made the Bruins pay while short-handed later in the first period. Following a giveaway by Boston, Jakob Silfverberg fired the puck over the net on a quality opportunity with six minutes left.

Maroon opened the scoring at 10:18 of the second period. He carried the puck across the blueline and made a move to skate around defenseman Matt Bartkowski before beating Rask with a shot from deep in the left circle.

Ryan Spooner tied it on a power play with 6:53 remaining in the second. He pirouetted as he gathered Patrice Bergeron's pass and sniped a shot from the right circle past Andersen.

Boston began the third period on a power play and Loui Eriksson buried a rebound 27 seconds in to make it 2-1.
