Eakin's penalty shot in OT lifts Stars over Predators

Apr 5, 2015 - 5:49 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Eakin's penalty shot in overtime lifted the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators.

With less than a minute to play in the extra session, a stretch pass sent Eakin behind the Nashville defense. The stick was then knocked out of his hands by Mattias Ekholm, giving Eakin the chance to end the game.

"Good finish by us," said Eakin.

Travis Moen, Tyler Seguin and Colton Sceviour also scored for the Stars to end their two-game losing streak.

Jhonas Enroth made 33 saves in the win.

The Predators lost their third straight game on the heels of a four-game winning streak. James Neal tied the game with less than two minutes remaining, and Filip Forsberg and Ryan Ellis also lit the lamp.

"Tough way to lose," said Ellis. "But we showed that we have the character to come back."

Pekka Rinne allowed all four Stars goals on 24 shots.

Seguin's slapshot from the top of the circle on the power play broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period. Just four minutes later, Sceviour battled for a rebound in front and eventually jammed the puck by Rinne.

Just past the midpoint of the period, Ellis pulled Nashville within one. Forsberg won a puck battle along the board and set up Ellis for an open shot in the slot.

With the goalie pulled in favor of the extra attacker, Neal returned from a nine-game absence due to an upper-body injury and tied the game. Mike Ribeiro came off the boards to protect the puck and passed to Neal for the one-time blast that beat Enroth.

Each team had two shots on goal in overtime before Eakin ended the game.

The Predators took a 1-0 lead at the midpoint of the opening period. Ekholm's cross-ice pass found Forsberg open in the circle, and Enroth could not move right-to-left in time to stop the shot.

A few minutes into the second period, Moen evened the score. The Stars prevented Forsberg from clearing the zone, and after Rinne stopped Sceviour's shot, Moen slid the rebound into the net.
