Rangers sign Stephen Gionta to 1-year deal
Aug 8, 2017 - 8:22 PM The New York Rangers signed center Stephen Gionta to a one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday.Gionta, 33, spent the first seven years of his career in the New York area, playing for the New Jersey Devils for six seasons from 2011 to 2016. He joined the New York Islanders last season.
The former Boston College standout had one goal and five assists in 26 games with the Islanders last season. In 296 career games, Gionta has 16 goals and 40 assists for 56 points.
Gionta is the younger brother of veteran right wing Brian Gionta, who began his career with the nearby Devils and played for the Buffalo Sabres last season.
