Devils C Zajac could miss up to six months

Aug 18, 2017 - 4:18 AM The New Jersey Devils announced Thursday that veteran center Travis Zajac could miss up to six months after having surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle.

"This morning, Travis Zajac underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle that was suffered last week during offseason training," Devils general manager Ray Shero said. "The procedure was performed by the club's chief medical officer, Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow. Zajac's expected recovery time is approximately four to six months."

Zajac had 14 goals and 31 assists in 80 games for the Devils last season, playing 19:43 per game, including an average of 2:34 on the power play and 2:19 on the penalty kill. He also had a 54.7 percent success rate on faceoffs.

The 32-year-old Zajac is signed through 2021, with a salary cap hit of $5.75 million per season.

In his 11-year NHL career, all with New Jersey, Zajac has 155 goals, 280 assists and a plus-26 rating in 779 games.
