Jokipakka lands tryout deal with Capitals
Sep 5, 2017 - 6:51 PM The Washington Capitals signed defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka to a professional tryout contract, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday.Jokipakka collected one goal and five assists in 41 games with the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators last season. He was traded from Calgary to Ottawa in a deal involving forward Curtis Lazar.
The 26-year-old native of Finland has recorded three goals and 25 assists in 150 career contests with the Flames, Senators and Stars since being selected by Dallas with a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft.
Washington is looking to address the offseason departures of defensemen Karl Alzner, Kevin Shattenkirk and Nate Schmidt.
