Avs' Johnson suspended for two games
Dec 18, 2017 - 1:53 AM Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson received a two-game suspension from the NHL on Sunday for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vladislav Namestnikov.The incident occurred with 3:03 remaining in the second period of Saturday's 6-5 win by the Lightning.
Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing and a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding. Namestnikov did not return to the contest.
Johnson will forfeit $64,516.12 under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
The suspension was the second in the NHL career of Johnson, who was the top overall pick of the 2006 draft. The 29-year-old Minnesota native was suspended two games for slashing then-New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen in February 2014.
