Trump won't hurt LA Olympic bid: IOC

Feb 15, 2017 - 8:59 AM International Olympic Committee member Gian Franco Kasper does not believe new US President Donald Trump is a disadvantage for the Los Angeles bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

"I don't believe that has a direct influence. The vote is not till September ... until then a lot can change," the president of skiing governing body FIS said.

"We have three good candidates and I believe it will be a close race between Paris and Los Angeles."

Trump's controversial presidency has led to fears the country could be passed over for major international sporting events.

LA mayor Eric Garcetti said Trump's now struck-down executive order banning immigration from seven Muslim majority countries fanned the "flames of hatred."

But Kasper says the role Trump will play in the 2024 decision between LA, Paris and Budapest is "hard to say."

"I don't let myself be influenced by Mr Trump," Kasper said.

"For me it's about the concept and what the organisers offer."
