NASCAR Betting Picks for the Jockey Made in America 250 at Road America

Jul 3, 2021 - 10:44 PM

After a wild doubleheader weekend at Pocono, racing fans are in for a treat on this Independence Day Weekend. For the first time since 1956, the NASCAR Cup Series will run at Road America. The Wisconsin-based road course extends over four miles in length, making it the longest track on the series schedule. While the road course aces amongst the field are certainly licking their chops, the unknowns with a new track can present challenges for all drivers. Pay attention to practice and qualifying before Sunday’s race. Bettors are advised to proceed with a degree of caution when making NASCAR betting picks for the Jockey Made in America 250. Play the odds correctly, and you could come away from the Fourth of July a winner.

Jockey Made in America 250 Best Bets

The following sections detail the top NASCAR betting picks for Sunday’s race at Road America.

Top 10 Finish: Kurt Busch (+140 at FOX Bet)

One driver who comes into the Jockey Made in America 250 with momentum is Kurt Busch. After being plagued by bad luck for much of the year, Busch and the No. 1 team for Chip Ganassi Racing have recently thrown down some solid finishes. He has finished in the top-10 in three of the last four races. This includes a sixth-place showing in the last road race at Sonoma. The NASCAR betting odds have moved tremendously on him throughout the week. This +140 price for a top-10 still affords a great return.

The other thing to keep in mind with this top-10 bet on Busch is the massive news regarding Chip Ganassi Racing from this week. With the upstart Trackhouse Racing Team set to purchase and take over all CGR NASCAR operations starting next season, the team employees could very well be auditioning for a job. It remains to be seen whether or not Busch might be the second Trackhosue driver in 2022. For now, he and the No. 1 camp will look to continue their solid run at Road America. Perhaps they’ll catch the eye of Justin Marks and Pitbull in the process.

Race Matchup: Michael McDowell (-110 at FOX Bet) vs. Chris Buescher

While he may not have the car to win at Road America, Michael McDowell should be in great shape to come out ahead in this head-to-head matchup against Chris Buescher. The Daytona 500 winner is one of the best drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series on road courses. He finished top-10 at both the Daytona Road Course and Circuit of the Americas this season. If not for a last-lap feud with Daniel Suarez that led to him get spun out in the final turn, he likely would have grabbed a third top-10 at Sonoma. McDowell also has a previous Xfinity Series win at Road America on his resume.

Thanks to the last-lap run-in, Buescher was able to finish ahead of McDowell at Sonoma. However, that is the only road course in which he has bettered the No. 34 car this season. Buescher wound up 16th at Sonoma. His other two road finishes this season were 13th at COTA and 11th at Daytona. The No. 17 team has been struggling over the past few weeks after a solid first half of the season. Two poor runs at Pocono last weekend saw Buescher drop out of the current playoff field on points. Not only does a bet on McDowell in this head-to-head align with the better road racer, but it also goes against a struggling Buescher.

Favorite: Chase Elliott (+300 at FOX Bet)

It should come as no surprise that reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott is the odds-on favorite for Sunday’s race. Elliott has been the class of the field for a few years now at road courses. He took the checkered in the first-ever race at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year. Elliott drove to a pair of top-5 finishes in his two prior Xfinity Series starts at Road America. Although he has never won here, he holds the best average finish among all drivers in Sunday’s field who have made at least two starts at the track. It’s always tough to beat the No. 9 car on a road course. Sunday will be no exception.

Value Bet: Kyle Busch (+1200 at DraftKings)

If not for an early stoppage due to rain, Kyle Busch might very well have won at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year. The No. 18 team has been firing on all cylinders lately. Busch drove to a win in the second race of last week’s Pocono doubleheader after finishing runner-up on Saturday. While Hendrick Motorsports has been the clear top team for several weeks, Busch has clearly been their top challenger. He has also proven to be decisively stronger when NASCAR has pre-race practice and qualifying. In fact, Busch overcame a pair of issues and posted the fastest time in Saturday afternoon’s practice session. He is one to watch at Road America.

Longshot Hopeful: Austin Cindric (+4000 at FOX Bet)

While he may not be a full-time Cup Series driver until next season, Austin Cindric has already proven that he can hang with the big boys. He led several laps early at COTA and is better than most Cup drivers when it comes to road racing. Cindric has dominated the NASCAR Xfinity Series competition this season as he looks to repeat as champion. He had four wins coming into the weekend and could very well add a fifth in Saturday’s Henry 180. Cindric will have Team Penske power behind him in the No. 33 car. He’s worth a look as a longshot with incredible spoiler potential.
