Daley sizes up Hayne for Origin return
Aug 3, 2016 - 6:50 PM Laurie Daley won't be afraid to play Jarryd Hayne out of position as he sizes up the crosscode-star for a return to the State of Origin arena next year.Hayne will make his to the NRL for Gold Coast this weekend with NSW coach Daley to scrutinse his form closely as he turns his attention to the 2017 series.
Before his departure to the NFL and Rugby Sevens, Hayne was the difference-maker in the Blues' 2014 drought-breaking series win over Queensland.
While next year's State of Origin series is still 10 months away, Daley said the former Dally M Medal winner was already in his plans and would be invited to the side's end-of-season get together.
Daley will be forced to make a cut-throat decision when it comes to picking his No.1 next year after James Tedesco made the most of his first outing in the jumper in game three this year.
After using Josh Dugan and Matt Moylan in the role since Hayne's departure, Daley had seemingly found a long-term No.1 in the Wests Tigers custodian.
Faced with having two outstanding candidates for one spot, Daley said he wouldn't be afraid to shift Hayne elsewhere in the backline to accomodate Tedesco if he thought it was best of for the make up of the team.
"(Hayne) can play centre, wing, five-eighth," Daley told Fox Sports' NRL360 on Wednesday.
"I was really impressed with James Tedesco in game three.
"It'll just come down to the make up of the team. I think I said during the series, pick the best team and find a spot for them."
