Wests Tigers' Farah to quit NRL club
Sep 3, 2016 - 11:23 AM Wests Tigers veteran Robbie Farah will leave the NRL club at the end of the season.Farah had been tipped to quit the Tigers for several weeks and the club confirmed on Saturday night he'd be released from the final year of his contract.
South Sydney and Cronulla remain the favourites to secure the NSW State of Origin hooker, who hasn't played first grade since he was dropped by coach Jason Taylor in July.
The Tigers didn't confirm Farah's next destination, only that the 32-year-old was set to take up an opportunity "elsewhere".
The decision means Tigers' fans can farewell Farah at halftime of Sunday's round-26 clash with Canberra at Leichhardt Oval.
The Tigers need to win that match to leapfrog Gold Coast and secure eighth spot on the ladder and an elimination final against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.
Farah has played 247 matches for the Tigers since his debut in 2003.
He paid tribute to Tigers' fans for their support during his career.
"No matter what happens in the future, this club will always be special to me," Farah said.
"It's been a part of my life for so long. I have so many fond memories and have made lifelong friends here."
Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe described Farah as a legend of the club and said it was fitting he would get the chance to be farewelled on Sunday by the fans.
"We've been working closely with Robbie and his manager to get to a position where we could give him the farewell that he deserves and it's great that we can finally do that," Pascoe said.
