Roosters sign bad boys Tetevano and Knight
Sep 30, 2016 - 6:28 AM The Sydney Roosters have signed trouble-plagued youngsters Zane Tetevano and Liam Knight as they seek to rebuild their NRL dynasty.Despite vowing to never return to the "toxic environment" of the NRL after being jailed for a series of attacks on his girlfriend, Tetevano, 25, has signed a one-year deal to join the team next year.
Tetavano was jailed for nine months - however was allowed to go free on appeal - after being found guilty of assault in 2015.
During his hearing, his lawyer told the court the prop had quit rugby league because he had "no desire to return to the toxic environment that the NRL invites".
The NRL integrity unit cleared Tetevano to return, after he served two years out of the game and underwent education programs.
After the NRL was satisfied that he had made strides in his rehabilitation, his return was rubber-stamped and he was signed by Trent Robinson's Roosters.
He turned out for Roosters feeder side Wyong this year and was named in the NSW Cup team of the year.
The club has also signed controversial former Manly forward Liam Knight, who famously sprayed Aerogard into his mouth after being pulled over for a random breath test and subsequently being charged with high-range drink-driving.
Knight, 21, was given a good behaviour bond after recording a blood-alcohol level of .176 in March this year.
After being spotted driving "well above" the speed limit in Sydney's Frenchs Forrest, he grabbed a can of insect repellent and sprayed it into his mouth.
After serving a club suspension with Manly, the second-rower was given his first-grade debut in June by coach Trent Barrett. However, he was released from the final year of his contract to sign a three-year deal with the Roosters.
"Both Zane and Liam will boost the depth of our forwards heading into 2017," Roosters chief executive John Lee said.
"Significantly, they have each displayed a genuine desire to continue to apply themselves and develop within our structures both on and off the field."
After three straight minor premierships, the Roosters fell to 15th this year after a trouble-plagued season.
