Keary upbeat about NRL move to Roosters

Nov 8, 2016 - 6:28 AM Sydney Roosters recruit Luke Keary is excited about forging a halves combination with Mitchell Pearce and is confident his new club can enjoy the title success he tasted at his last NRL home.

Five-eighth Keary spent four seasons at Souths and played in their 2014 premiership-winning side.

The Roosters last won the competition in 2013 and secured three successive minor premierships before sliding to 15th this year.

Despite that dip, Keary believes the Rooseters have the goods to be genuine contenders next year.

" I wouldn't be here if I didn't think they had the culture and the squad to go all the way and they have got the coach and the staff around that have been there and done that," Keary said.

The work of premiership-winning coach Trent Robinson was a major factor in luring Keary to the Roosters.

"What attracted me probably was the culture that he's brought to this club and obviously the sustained success they've had," Keary said.

Keary has only met with Pearce this week, but is clearly relishing the prospect of playing alongside the former NSW No.7.

"He seems like a really good fellow, down to earth and welcoming and he's obviously a very good footballer too," Keary said.

"He has proven himself over a number of years now

"He's a top quality player and I'm definitely looking forward to working with him."

Keary is also looking forward to a fresh start after a tough final year in the Rabbitohs burrow, which started with his bust up with owner Russell Crowe at a pre-season bonding session.

"I'm not looking in the past anymore. I'm just excited to start afresh here," Keary said.

Fellow recruit and former Parramatta winger and fullback Michael Gordon is another hoping a change of club will lead to a happier season after playing through the Eels tumultuous 2016 campaign.

"Things happened over there that were out of everyone's control, " Gordon said.

"But to have a club like the Roosters showing interest, I was super excited to jump at the chance. A great club with a great tradition.

"They probably didn't have the year that they wanted, but they've all come in with a real good attitude and I think it feels like a bit of a fresh start for them too.

'You can see it on some of the players' faces already that they are keen for a big year and I'm just happy to be a part of it."
