Penrith re-sign 15th NRL player in 2016
Nov 11, 2016 - 3:53 AM Penrith's unprecedented spending spree has continued with the announcement of a two-year extension for young prop Moses Leota.Leota becomes the 15th player re-signed by the NRL club this year, with another five new Panthers, including James Tamou, lured to the club for next season.
A day after revealing the signature of another member of the Cartwright family in club legend John's son Jed from Gold Coast, Leota penned a contract until the end of 2019.
He is now one of a remarkable 11 players under contract that year, including boom halfback Nathan Cleary, and forwards James Fisher-Harris, Tyrone Peachey and Isaah Yeo.
Teammates Leilani Latu, Trent Merrin and Tamou are signed to 2020, while stars Bryce Cartwright and Matt Moylan have mammoth deals until 2021.
The only first-grade regulars coming off contract at the end of next season are Waqa Blake, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Dean Whare.
No other club have committed more contracts to their 2020-21 salary cap than Penrith.
""Moses is a terrific story. He is one of the most dedicated and hard-working young men you will ever meet and a pleasure to have around our club," Panthers boss Phil Gould said.
"I sincerely hope this is the start of a long and successful career with the Panthers."
Most of Penrith's NRL squad, minus their Four Nations representatives, return for day one of pre-season on Monday.
