Hunt must step up for Brisbane: Parker

Mar 14, 2017 - 4:33 PM Former Brisbane skipper Corey Parker wants halfback Ben Hunt to step up, saying the Broncos' reliance on Anthony Milford in clutch plays makes them "predictable".

Parker said he was surprised to hear coach Wayne Bennett reveal Hunt was "not comfortable" attempting an extra-time field goal in the wake of their 21-20 golden point NRL loss to North Queensland last round.

Five-eighth Milford made two unsuccessful attempts at a match-winning field goal in extra time after Hunt failed to volunteer time and again.

North Queensland zeroed in on Milford as a result, with Jason Taumalolo charging down one attempt in the golden-point frenzy.

"It surprises me," Parker said on Fox Sports of Bennett's Hunt comment.

"You look at the best guys in the game - or any sport - and they want the ball in their hands.

"Confidence probably has something to do with it."

Parker said Brisbane would become one-dimensional in tight games if Hunt did not turn it around.

"If Hunt is not setting up for a field goal obviously there is only one other guy who can do it - Milford," said Parker, who ended his 347-game Broncos career last year.

"It makes it very predictable. You need your star playmakers to want the ball in their hands and follow through.

"Brisbane had an opportunity last week time and time again to get that done."
