Manly staffer speaks out against CEO
Mar 15, 2017 - 9:43 PM Fresh allegations raising concerns of Manly CEO Tim Cleary's management-style have emerged as he tries to implement administrative reform at the NRL club.Cleary has been involved in a bitter feud with Immortal Bob Fulton, who was reportedly put offside after his daughter Kristie was shifted from the club's football department.
Now another Manly staffer, Sea Eagles football manager Jacky McCauley, has come forward saying she had been unfairly reprimanded by Cleary after asking Eddie Obeid Jr. to identify himself in a corporate box during a Sea Eagles match this year.
McCauley says Cleary was "p****d off" after she asked Obeid for his name while in the box.
"He said he had appalling feedback from his guests about the way they were treated and that they were made to feel like second-class citizens because they were asked their names," McCauley told News Corp Australia.
Obeid is the son of disgraced NSW state politician Eddie Obeid Sr, who's serving a minimum three-year jail sentence for corruption. There is no suggestion of wrong-doing in dealings with Obeid Jr.
However, the claims by McCauley, who's on stress leave, may undermine Cleary's authority as she also alleged the club boss reneged on an offer to shift her to a desired new role.
Cleary is looking to take the club in a new direction administratively after a tumultuous two years which saw the team struggle on-field and at the centre of match-fixing investigations.
But Cleary has the backing of the club owner Scott Penn, who has reportedly hired human resources consultants and addressed staff on Wednesday.
"Certainly he has a clear mandate corporately of where we want to take the organisation," Penn told Fairfax Media.
