Titans throw Chris Grevsmuhl NRL lifeline
Mar 20, 2017 - 5:36 AM The injury-ravaged Gold Coast have thrown former Penrith player Chris Grevsmuhl a NRL lifeline. The Titans have signed Grevsmuhl on a two-year deal, welcoming back the forward to the NRL just four months after his released from his Panthers' contract for personal reasons.
Gold Coast revealed on Monday they had been working with the forward for several weeks to set up a support system for the ex-Indigenous All Star.
The 24-year-old has been signed until the end of the 2018 season.
"Chris has obviously had some personal issues that he has had to deal with over the last few months and, as a club, we've taken our time to work with him to get the best results for everyone," Titans coach Neil Henry said.
"Whilst we know the talents Chris has on the field, we will continue to assist him in all areas of his life, both on and off the field."
Grevsmuhl has played 43 NRL games with stints at South Sydney (2015-16) and Penrith (2016).
"Chris will be given the opportunity to prove his capacity to fit in with the Titans' culture and become a valuable contributor as we continue to rebuild," Titans CEO Graham Annesley said.
"If he shows the necessary character and commitment required, he certainly has the ability to be very successful."
Gold Coast are reeling from a horror injury toll.
Twelve players are injured or unavailable, winger William Zillman (calf) becoming the latest victim in their stirring round-three 26-14 win over Parramatta.
The Titans host North Queensland on Saturday night.
