Nofoaluma waived 10-day period for Tigers
Apr 25, 2017 - 3:36 AM Wests Tigers winger David Nofoaluma has revealed he waived his right to a 10-day cooling-off period when re-signing in order to give the NRL club a timely and much-needed boost.Nofoaluma joined Luke Brooks as one of the club's key players to re-sign for next year, inking a four-year deal last Wednesday.
Ordinarily, that deal wouldn't have been announced until the end of this week due to the NRL's 10-day window in the player's favour.
But with the Tigers in need of stability as headlines continue to focus around the futures of off-contract stars Aaron Woods and James Tedesco, Nofoaluma dispensed with the window to give the club some positive news at a critical time.
"I signed a waiver so I'm done," he said.
"I love this club. It's my junior club and it's my local club."
The Campbelltown junior admitted he was tempted to join Parramatta.
"There were a few teams but the team that was chasing me the hardest was Parramatta," he said.
Nofoaluma has been one of the Tigers' best players in 2017.
He is ranked third in the competition for average metres (179) and second for tackle busts (56), in what has easily been his best year since debuting in 2013.
His passion for the Tigers is clear.
He signed off with "#OnTheBus" when tweeting his re-signing - a reference to new coach Ivan Cleary's famous line that players must be "on the bus".
He also kissed the club logo on his jersey after scoring his third try of the season in Sunday's 18-12 win over Canterbury.
The 23-year-old said, despite the ongoing dramas, he had no concerns around re-signing.
"I obviously spoke to Ivan and he knows what he's doing and he's a good coach," Nofoaluma said.
"I'm sure he's going to do the right thing by the club and he convinced me to stay and I want to stay under him."
