Titans' Roberts relegates Elgey to bench
Apr 25, 2017 - 6:38 AM The Titans haven't caught a trick with an injury crisis that has cost them 11 players, but it has given their Mr Versatile claims to a starting spot against Newcastle in round nine of the NRL.Tyrone Roberts has started at fullback, hooker and most recently five-eighth in 2017 impressing his coach Neil Henry.
"There's no doubt he's in some good form at the moment and we know how well he can play," Henry said.
"As I've always said there's been a three-way battle in the halves."
At the start of the season utility Roberts was behind Ash Taylor and Kane Elgey in the pecking order - with both of the young Queenslanders being touted as long-term prospects for the Titans.
But Roberts has impressed all over the park and has pushed Elgey out of the starting five-eighth position for their match against the Knights on Saturday.
The former Newcastle player is out of contract with the Titans at the end of this season and Henry is looking to keep a hold of him.
"He (Roberts) likes it on the Coast and is keen to stay here and we're saying the way he's playing football we'd be keen to keep him," Henry said on Tuesday.
The Titans will have their hands full juggling contracts as they look to keep hooker Nathan Peats who is off contract at season's end.
The New South Welshman joined the club sensationally mid way through 2016 after Parramatta could not afford to keep him.
The former Eel has missed the majority of 2017 for the Titans through injury but shone in defence against the Sharks last week when he recorded 57 tackles.
