Being off-contract affected my form: Feldt
May 15, 2017 - 6:41 AM North Queensland winger Kyle Feldt admits his lacklustre start to the NRL season was partly down to not having his future sorted.Feldt has re-signed with the Cowboys for three more years, it was announced on Monday.
The new deal will see the 25-year-old Townsville junior tied to his hometown club until the end of the 2020 campaign.
Premiership winner Feldt has scored 34 tries in 56 games over five years with the Cowboys and famously scored the last-gasp try that sent the 2015 grand final into golden point.
He scored 15 tries last year but crossed for his first try of this season in last week's 30-14 win over Canterbury.
It was no coincidence he signed his new contract the day before.
"It's a bit of a weight off my shoulders," he said.
"It's been a long time coming.
"Not knowing what I was doing next year and not having the security behind me... it was probably one thing that led to a few bad performances but it's all sorted now.
"We got the deal done the Wednesday when we got down to Sydney.
"I had a really good night's sleep and a clear mind going into the game."
Feldt, who ran for 134 metres and busted through five tackles against the Bulldogs in his best performance of the season, has a terrific Michael Morgan crossfield kick to thank for his drought-breaking try.
"It was always going to come, it was just a matter of time," he said.
"I was lucky enough Morgo put the kick on the money, all I had to do was catch it and put it down."
The Cowboys, sixth on the NRL ladder, travel to face second-placed Cronulla on Thursday night.
