Sarginson's NRL season with Titans over
May 30, 2017 - 5:37 AM Dan Sargison debut NRL season with Gold Coast looks all but finished after needing surgery on an injured shoulder. The English import had struggled to settle into life in the NRL and coach Neil Henry thinks the latest injury will finish his first season.
"He's had the patella tendon (knee) problem and now he's injured his shoulder and we might not see him for the rest of this season," Henry said.
His injuries started early this year. Sarginson played the season opener before missing the next six rounds with knee tendonitis.
He looked to be slowly improving on his return and ran for a season high 161 metres in the Titans' upset win over Cronulla.
But during their round-10 defeat of Melbourne, Sarginson went down clutching his shoulder.
Despite limited playing time, Sarginson is a popular member around the group and the coach wants to keep him around the squad.
"We'll keep him around the boys. He'll do his rehab, then a good pre-season, where he hopefully puts a few kilos on and get those legs a bit better and bigger and be right to go in 2018," Henry said.
"It's a difficult time for anyone who gets a long-term injury; it's important to keep him around the group.
"He's enjoying his time here and settling into coast life and, hopefully, we'll see him ready for pre-season."
The long stint on the sidelines all but dashes his dream to play for England later this year in the Rugby League World Cup.
Sarginson has represented his country three times. He had hoped a move to the NRL would cement his place in the English side.
