Bromwich backs Myles to thrive at Storm

Jun 14, 2017 - 3:08 AM Melbourne forward Jesse Bromwich knows from experience Craig Bellamy gets the best out of players, and he's confident the Storm coach can work his magic on newly signed prop Nate Myles.

Myles' release from Manly came a day after he was dropped from Queensland's Origin squad, having been a mainstay through 32 matches in their decade of dominance.

The 31-year-old had been relegated to the bench towards the end of his stint with the Sea Eagles, but Bromwich is confident he can get back to his best with the Storm.

"Craig Bellamy, in my opinion, is the best coach in the NRL, and if Nate Myles learns a few things off him, he's going to be good," Bromwich said on Wednesday.

"I've seen Craig do a good job with a lot of players, myself included.

"I never got looked at before I came here and I never thought I was going to play NRL, (but) 170 games later, having Craig as my coach, I can't give him enough praise."

Myles will have to wait for his Storm debut after he was ruled out of Saturday's clash against North Queensland at AAMI Park with an elbow injury.

Bromwich said his experience would be especially invaluable towards the pointy end of the season.

"He's got plenty of experience and he's played in a lot of big games," he said.

"I've watched him, I don't know how many times, in the State of Origin and he's done a great job every time. If he's in the team when (finals) come around, I'm sure he'll do a great job."

Melbourne will go into Saturday's clash without Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Will Chambers and Tim Glasby.

The Cowboys have also been hit hard by Origin selection, with Johnathan Thurston, Michael Morgan, Coen Hess and Gavin Cooper all on Maroons duty.

"It's always a tough time for us. We've always got our leaders out," Bromwich said.

"I think we've put ourselves in good position. We're playing good footy this year and we've got a few injuries at the same time.

"It's a good time for these young fellas to come in and show Craig what they've got and show the Origin boys that they're ready to step up."
