English forward ready for Broncos switch
Jul 11, 2017 - 6:05 AM Strapping English forward Andre Savelio says it'll be a case of right time, right club when he joins Brisbane in the NRL next season.Sometimes compared to Sonny Bill Williams for his physical attributes and playing style, Warrington forward Savelio has signed a two-year contract with the Broncos.
The 22-year-old back rower clearly caught the eye of Bennett during the Wolves' shock 27-18 win over the Broncos in the World Club Series in February.
He will see out the rest of his contract with Warrington as they battle for their survival in Super League before linking up with Bennett's men and joining the likes of countrymen Sam Burgess and James Graham in the NRL.
"I have spoken to Brisbane a few times and I just thought now was the time as I feel more than ready to do it," Savelio said.
"A lot of English forwards have done well in the NRL, so it was always something I had thought about.
"And I always thought the Broncos would be the team I wanted to go to if I did do it.
"Now I am just excited to get down there."
Savelio should be right at home in Brisbane as he has plenty of relatives in the city.
"My uncles, cousins, grandma and granddad all live in Brisbane," Savelio told The Sun before February's World Club Series match.
"I remember my dad went away and a Brisbane shirt was the first one he brought back, it's the first jersey I remember having.
"From that, I took a liking to them. Even though he was a half and I'm a forward, Darren Lockyer was my favourite player."
Savelio made his Super League debut for St Helens in 2014 at the age of 19 but last season went out on loan to Castleford, for whom he made seven appearances, and subsequently joined Warrington on a 12-month deal.
Broncos chief executive Paul White said: "Andre is a strong young forward and we have seen first-hand what he can do on the field in England.
"He is an exciting young prospect that will add depth to our forward stocks."
