Elgey and McQueen inch closer to returns
Jul 11, 2017 - 5:32 PM With their NRL finals hopes hanging by the finest of threads, Gold Coast's injury crisis is beginning to ease with Chris McQueen and Kane Elgey hopeful of returning next week.McQueen (neck) and Elgey (sternum) were on Tuesday left off Neil Henry's team sheet for Saturday's must-win clash against Cronulla.
To make matters worse, Henry admitted Mr Fix-It Tyrone Roberts was no certainty to take on the Sharks because of an ankle problem.
If five-eighth Roberts is ruled out, Jamal Fogarty, who has been named on an extended bench, will come in to partner Ash Taylor in the halves.
Henry said he was confident Roberts would be right for the weekend and ran well with the side on Tuesday.
Roberts has slotted into five-eighth for Elgey who has missed the last month and had hoped to be right to take on Cronulla.
"He's still a bit sore, he did a bit of contact the other day but it's going to be another week," Henry said of Elgey.
Wests Tigers-bound back-rower McQueen has required cortisone injections in his neck and has yet to resume full contact training.
Henry revealed McQueen - who has not appeared since round 15 - re-aggravated the injury at training and would be available next week at the earliest.
"It's been ongoing for him, we're hoping it settles and there's nothing that's going to keep him out for another month," Henry said.
"But at the moment it's not good enough for him to do contact so he'd be at least another game away."
Heading into their clash with the Sharks, the Titans require six wins from their last eight games to be any hope of making the finals.
