We are not playing underdog card: NQ
Sep 26, 2017 - 5:33 PM For someone who isn't playing the underdog card, North Queensland coach Paul Green has sure made the Cowboys sound like long shots ahead of Sunday's NRL grand final against Melbourne.Last week Green threw all the expectation back on Parramatta ahead of their preliminary final, describing the Eels as "certainties".
And Green was at it again before the injury hit Cowboys left for Sydney on Wednesday.
Asked how North Queensland can beat runaway favourites the Storm, Green said: "People say we can't, so..."
But Green baulked when told he was embracing the underdog tag.
"I haven't been playing the underdog tag," he said.
"People just haven't expected us to win.
"That's been the situation we have been in."
Yet Green kept up the perceived ruse, even welcoming Sydney fans to jump on the Cowboys bandwagon on Sunday.
Asked if he hoped North Queensland would be adopted as "Sydney's team" this weekend, Green said: "We will take any support we can get.
"I run into a lot of people and they say 'I am a Parramatta fan or whatever but the Cowboys are my second team.
"Either way I think it will be a great atmosphere down there even though they are two teams out of Sydney."
