Chambers to play despite missing training

Nov 21, 2017 - 6:03 AM Kangaroos centre Will Chambers is a certainty to play in Friday night's Rugby League World Cup semi-final against Fiji despite missing training.

Chambers was a noticeable absentee from Australia's main training run of the week on Tuesday at Langlands Park with a toe injury, which also kept him out of a session earlier in the tournament.

However, the injury is only considered minor and he has been named in an unchanged line-up for the final-four clash with Fiji, who have qualified after upsetting New Zealand. Tom Trbojevic trained with the Kangaroos on Tuesday in Chambers' absence.

A win for Australia will put them through to a final at Suncorp Stadium against England or Tonga, who play on Saturday in the other semi-final.

Meninga said the team who beat Samoa in the Darwin quarter-final deserved selection.

"We are getting continuity with the team and, considering the result against Samoa, the same team should be rewarded," Meninga said.

"This is a semi-final and we know it will be an incredibly tough test for us.

"Fiji have been outstanding throughout the tournament and we will have to make sure our preparation is excellent."

Fijian coach Michael Potter also named the same 17 who stunned the Kiwis last weekend, including former Kangaroos Jarryd Hayne and Akuila Uate.

Hayne was part of the Kangaroos' side who pumped Fiji 64-0 at the same stage in the 2013 tournament, when he scored a hat-trick.

"He carved us up, too. I actually hadn't thought about (playing with him) but, when they were selecting the side and they said that he'd put his hand up, that obviously made me very excited and it made a lot of other people excited too," hooker Apisai Koroisau said.
