Eddie Jones keen to stay in England
Sep 30, 2016 - 9:55 PM Eddie Jones admits his reign as England rugby could be extended beyond the 2019 World Cup.For the first time Jones has raised the possibility of him remaining in his post despite stating upon his appointment in November that he would serve the four years on his contract only.
Three days after the Rugby Football Union indicated it is open to the prospect of him staying, Jones has opened the door to a longer tenure while acknowledging his future hinges on his ongoing success.
England have compiled a sequence of nine straight victories under the 56-year-old, yielding a grand slam and unprecedented 3-0 series whitewash of Australia, but he uses the example of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to illustrate how swiftly fortunes can change.
"In terms of what happens to me, it's not my decision. If we don't deliver, the only thing they'll be asking me is what time does your flight leave," Jones said.
"If we do well then there will be a discussion and if we do well the discussion will take place after we do well.
"At this stage I have a plan in place which is to give everything I've got for England over the next four years."
Jones' immediate concern is the looming autumn series that opens with the visit of the Springboks on November 12 and continues with fixtures against Fiji, Argentina and Australia.
A 37-man squad gathers in Brighton on Sunday to begin a three-day training camp.
