Tackle earns Fa'auli four-week Super ban

Apr 2, 2017 - 11:24 PM Chiefs inside centre Jonathan Fa'auli has copped a four-week Super Rugby ban for a dangerous tackle in the Waikato-based side's win over the Bulls.

A SANZAAR foul play review committee accepted Fa'auli's guilty plea following a no-arms tackle on Jan Serfontein in the first half of their match in Hamilton on Saturday.

The Chiefs won 28-12 to remain unbeaten.

Committee chairman Nigel Hampton says the act merits a six-week ban but that was reduced because of mitigating factors, including the early plea.

It means 21-year-old Fa'auli will miss the entire Chiefs' offshore trip taking in games against the Stormers, Cheetahs and the Western Force.

The hard-hitting rookie from Counties Manu will also miss a home match against the Sunwolves, becoming available for a match against the Queensland Reds in New Plymouth on May 6.

Fa'auli's place in the tour squad is taken by Tasman centre Alex Nankivell, who is uncapped at Super Rugby level.
