Nabuli not sanctioned by SANZAAR committee
May 28, 2017 - 9:51 AM Queensland Reds winger Eto Nabuli is free to play in Friday's Super rugby clash with the Blues in Samoa after avoiding further sanctions by the SANZAAR foul play review committee. The hearing on Sunday was held to determine whether any more penalties would be imposed on Nabuli for persistent foul play, after he incurred his third yellow card of the season.
He was sin-binned last Friday for a high tackle on Western Force five-eighth Peter Grant, having got yellow cards in successive rounds back in March.
Nabuli was binned for cynical play against the Lions in Johannesburg in round four and again the following week for a deliberate knock down in the Reds clash with the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
"The foul play review committee conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence on all three incidents, including video clips and referee reports," "said committee chairman Nigel Hampton QC.
"With respect to sanction the foul play review committee deemed that no further sanction was appropriate due to the fact that both the first and the second yellow card offences were for technical offences, with the third card relating to a minor foul play incident.
"The foul play review committee cautioned the player as to his repeat offending, but felt no further sanction needed to be applied in such circumstances.
"The player is free to resume playing."
Former St George Illawarra NRL and Fiji rugby league international Nabuli is the Reds' top tryscorer this season with eight.
