Davis scores 2 on penalties for Dynamo, Ching hurt

Apr 2, 2010 - 3:58 AM HOUSTON(AP) -- Brad Davis scored on two penalties to give Houston a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Thursday night in a game marred by an injury to United States forward Brian Ching of the Dynamo.

Ching, a candidate to start up front for the US in the World Cup, went down in the 28th minute with a strained left hamstring after sliding while going for a loose ball with RSL's Nat Borchers on the end line.

Houston's career scoring leader immediately grabbed for his thigh and motioned for the training staff with his left arm. He was on the field for a couple minutes before he was helped off the turf and to the locker room.

Ching didn't speak after the game, but Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said Ching told him "he felt it pretty good." Kinnear added that he wished he knew more, but thought Ching "would be out for a while."

Mexican forward Luis Angel Landin came on for Ching in the 31st.

Javier Morales gave Real Salt Lake a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute after getting a through ball from Kyle Beckerman. Morales made a run just left of the half circle and went unmarked through the box, hitting a line drive inside the near post from about 10 yards out.

Davis knotted the score at one in the 53rd minute by nailing his penalty down the middle as goalkeeper Nick Rimando dove to his right. The Dynamo earned the penalty after RSL's Jamison Olave tripped Houston's Geoff Cameron in the box.

Davis made it 2-1 in the 56th minute on another penalty, this one as Olave tripped Landin in the left box.
