Real Salt Lake blanks Fire 1-0

Jul 9, 2010 - 3:52 AM BRIDGEVIEW, Ill.(AP) -- World Cup veteran Robbie Findley's penalty kick goal late in the first half and Nick Rimando's fifth straight shutout gave Real Salt Lake a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire on Thursday night.

Real Salt Lake (9-3-3) extended its unbeaten streak to 10 matches with its eighth win of the run, and pulled within six points of Western Conference leader Los Angeles (11-1-3).

Findley, a 24-year-old forward, was tripped and shoved by Chicago defender C.J. Brown to draw the penalty, and sent the ball low to the left of Fire goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.

Rimando, who last allowed a goal on May 29, stopped both shots the Fire put on goal for his 67th career shutout and extended his team-record shutout streak to 498 minutes.

The Fire (4-5-5) dropped their second straight match.
