Rodgers, Henry power Red Bulls past San Jose

Apr 17, 2011 - 1:35 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - A pair of goals from Luke Rodgers in the opening 15 minutes propelled Red Bull New York to a 3-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

Rodgers put New York ahead after just two minutes when a corner kick was flicked into his path by Dane Richards and he got up to turn home the header from close range.

Thierry Henry set up the second goal by taking the ball from a San Jose defender and feeding it across the face of goal to Rodgers, who easily finished it off at the back post.

Henry then missed a number of chances to extend the New York lead as he rounded goalkeeper Jon Busch in the 52nd minute but shot into the outside of the net.

Busch produced a quality save to deny the Frenchman in the 76th minute on a shot from 25 yards, but Henry put an end to his goal drought two minutes from time when he got on the other end of a cross from Rodgers to head the ball inside the far post.

The win is the first for New York (2-1-2) in four games, while San Jose (1-2-2) had a brief three-game unbeaten run snapped.
