Sounders roll past 'Quakes

May 11, 2013 - 10:16 PM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Lamar Neagle scored on each side of the intermission on Saturday as the Seattle Sounders cruised to a comfortable 4-0 thrashing of the San Jose Earthquakes at CenturyLink Field.

Coming off a physical 2-2 draw in Philadelphia last Saturday and 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City during the week, the Sounders were determined to put on a good performance for their home fans and Neagle as well as goals from Mauro Rosales and Obafemi Martins ensured the home side took a vital three points.

The Sounders opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Eddie Johnson lofted a cross into the penalty area that was chested down by Rosales, who laid it off to an unmarked Neagle and he ripped it with pace into the top left corner of the net.

The hosts extended their lead to 2-0 just before the halftime break with an extraordinary strike from Rosales, who smashed a free kick over the wall, off the left post and in behind San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch.

Neagle collected his second tally of the day in the 54th minute when he chested down a long ball from Servando Carrasco, cut to the inside and powered a left-footed strike just inside the near post and past a diving Busch.

Martins put an exclamation point on an outstanding performance for Seattle in stoppage time when he ripped a shot that was blocked by a San Jose defender, but the rebound came right back to Martins and he easily dispatched it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
