Martins, Di Vaio lead Impact past Dynamo

Jun 20, 2013 - 2:07 AM Montreal, ON (Sports Network) - Felipe Martins and Marco Di Vaio scored a goal apiece to lead the Montreal Impact to a 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday.

Martins and Di Vaio scored 18 minutes apart in the first half to help Montreal (9-3-2) remain unbeaten at home this season. Di Vaio went level with Jack McInerney atop the MLS scoring lead with 10 goals and maintains his streak of scoring in every one of the Impact's home matches this term.

Houston (6-5-4) is winless in its last five outings to remain on 22 points for the season, seven points back of the first-place Impact.

Montreal was in front by the 14th minute at the Stade Saputo when Patrice Bernier picked out a surging run forward by Martins, who latched on to the long ball before tucking a low shot past Tally Hall.

Houston had a glorious chance to level the score six minutes later when Matteo Ferrari brought down Will Bruin in the penalty area, but Giles Barnes skied the ensuing attempt well over the crossbar.

The Impact made the visitors pay by doubling Houston's deficit in the 32nd minute. Corey Ashe's back pass from mid-field caught Hall off guard, allowing Di Vaio to pounce and slip a shot past the Dynamo goalkeeper.
