Nguyen helps Revs top tired 'Quakes
Jul 7, 2013 - 1:37 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution collected its first win in four games on Saturday, downing the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-0, at Gillette Stadium.Saer Sene opened the scoring after 13 minutes and Dimitry Imbongo came off the bench to net the insurance tally 12 minutes from time for the Revs, who have earned 14 points from their last seven matches.
The Earthquakes looked tired after playing for the third time in the span of one week, and posed little threat in attack with forward Chris Wondolowski away on international duty.
Lee Nguyen set up both goals for the home side and he laid a pass off to Sene in the 13th minute that the forward lashed past goalkeeper Jon Busch with a curling left-footed strike.
Busch did well to keep out a shot from Andrew Farrell in the 34th minute as he redirected the ball past the post with his leg.
Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe both hit the outside of the net early in the second half for the Revs, but it wasn't until the 78th minute that Imbongo gave his team a bit of breathing room.
Once again Nguyen was involved and he slipped into the penalty area on the right before quickly playing a square ball into the six-yard box, where Imbongo slid in to provide the final touch.
