Clark's goal lifts Dynamo over Union

Jul 7, 2013 - 3:07 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Ricardo Clark's 59th-minute goal was enough to help the Houston Dynamo snap a seven-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday.

Houston had not only failed to win any of its last seven games, but the Dynamo had also been held without a goal in their last three fixtures.

But Clark finally snapped both streaks with a close-range header just before the hour mark from Jermaine Taylor's cross, bringing an end to the Union's five-match unbeaten streak in the process.

Both sides had trouble generating offense in the first half as Andrew Driver rolled a shot just wide for Houston, while the Union's Aaron Wheeler had a shot saved before Conor Casey fired the rebound over the net.

In the 58th minute, Clark squandered a great chance by heading the ball over the crossbar from six yards, but he would have another opportunity to redeem himself just one minute later.

Taylor received the ball on the left wing and Clark made a near-post run and latched on to the cross, sending a glancing header past goalkeeper Zac MacMath.

Jason Johnson forced a good save from MacMath 10 minutes from time, and he missed the net from 12 yards a few minutes later as the Dynamo attempted to put the game away.

Philadelphia had a late chance to level the contest in the 90th minute, but substitute Matt Kassel fired a half volley over the net from inside the penalty area.
