Impact settles for draw despite McInerney's debut goal

Apr 12, 2014 - 10:22 PM Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jack McInerney scored in his debut for the Montreal Impact on Saturday, but Quincy Amarikwa answered for the Chicago Fire to help his team claim a 1-1 draw at Olympic Stadium.

The result leaves both sides without a win this season and continues a trend for both teams of collecting one point at a time.

Chicago has now drawn its last five games while Montreal has settled for a point in its last three contests after starting the campaign on a three-game losing skid.

The Fire squandered a good chance to take the lead in the 35th minute when Lovel Palmer's cross set up a great opportunity for Jeff Larentowicz, which he shot over the net with goalkeeper Troy Perkins at his mercy.

Eight minutes later, Montreal seized the advantage as a nice flick from Marco Di Vaio released McInerney in behind the Fire defense, where he managed to slip a shot past goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

Di Vaio wasted a chance to double his team's lead in the 50th minute when he smashed a shot just over the crossbar from a good position following a cross delivered by Felipe Martins.

But Larentowicz atoned for his earlier miss when he headed a ball off the crossbar that allowed Amarikwa to finish off the rebound in the 55th to earn the Fire another draw.
