Urruti's brace powers Portland past RBNY

May 25, 2014 - 1:05 AM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Maximiliano Urruti bagged a brace at Red Bull Arena on Saturday to lead the Portland Timbers to a 2-1 victory over Red Bull New York.

The Red Bulls took the lead in the 36th minute when Pa Modou Kah yanked Lloyd Sam down in the box, allowing Bradley Wright-Phillips to slot home his 10th goal of the season on the ensuing penalty attempt.

But Portland managed to level the score before the close of the first half as Urruti collected a pass from Steve Zakuani in the 45th minute and fired a shot that took a deflection on its way past Luis Robles.

The Timbers ultimately took the lead in the 74th minute when New York failed to cope with a cross to the back post, allowing Urruti to smash home a first- time effort from close range for what turned out to be the winner.

Portland (2-3-7) improves to 13 points on the season to climb out of the Western Conference cellar while New York (3-5-5) have dropped three in a row, including two consecutive home games, to remain on 14 points.
