Henry's late strike sees TFC edge Columbus
May 31, 2014 - 11:09 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Doneil Henry struck in the second minute of stoppage time to lift Toronto FC to a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew at BMO Field on Saturday. The Crew twice took the lead in the match only to see Jermain Defoe equalize on both occasions, but Henry played the role of the hero by netting a late winner with just his second-ever MLS goal.
The win sees Toronto (5-4-1) go unbeaten in its last three MLS games to rise to 16 points on the season, level with Columbus (4-5-4).
The Crew went in front after just 17 minutes when a well-worked counter culminated with Justin Meram's sublime finish into the top corner.
Toronto answered three minutes later when Defoe was tugged down in the box by Tyson Wahl, allowing the Englishman to level the score by converting the ensuing penalty.
Columbus grabbed another go-ahead goal when a 65th-minute corner kick from Ben Speas was nodded home by Agustin Viana.
Defoe equalized once more, taking Gilberto's header in the 81st minute and rifling a left-footed volley into the back of the net.
It helped set up a last-gasp winner as Henry rose high to meet a corner kick from Daniel Lovitz and send a powerful header past Steve Clark, ensuring all three points for the Canadian club.
