Wright-Phillips helps 10-man Red Bull top Revs
Aug 3, 2014 - 1:07 AM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Wright-Phillips' second-half tally proved to be the difference on Saturday as 10-man Red Bull New York rallied for a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena.Dax McCarty struck for New York just two minutes into the second half and Wright-Phillips hit for the winner in the 63rd minute for the Red Bulls, who played the entire second half a man down.
Charlie Davies netted the lone goal for New England after 20 minutes, but the Revs couldn't hold the lead and tasted defeat for the ninth time in their last 10 matches.
The visitors gabbed the lead on the 20 minute mark as Teal Bunbury lofted a cross into the penalty area from the right flank and Davies was alone at the back post to nod it home for his first goal in a New England kit.
Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga was shown a straight red card by referee Allen Chapman in first half stoppage time for a rash tackle, but the hosts still grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half.
New York found an equalizer in the 47th minute when McCarty did brilliantly well to chip it over Revs goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth from the edge of the penalty area.
The Red Bulls then took the lead in the 64th minute as Wright-Phillips collected an over-the-top ball from Lloyd Sam on the right side of the box. Wright-Phillips cut inside to his left foot and curled a strike just inside the far post for his league-leading 18th goal of the season.
New England received some late hope as the fourth official's board showed five minutes of stoppage time, but they were unable to find an equalizer.
