Castillo nods FC Dallas into postseason

Oct 13, 2014 - 1:25 AM Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Fabian Castillo's late goal proved to be the difference on Sunday as 10-man FC Dallas clinched a postseason berth with a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy at Toyota Stadium.

FC Dallas needed three points to claim their spot in the postseason party after missing in each of the past two season, and goals from Castillo and David Texeira made sure the home side came away with all three points to improve to 51 points.

The Galaxy entered the match hoping to take the lead in the race for the Supporters' Shield with a win or draw, but Bruce Arena's side was undone by Castillo's late heroics to remain level with Seattle atop the West with 60 points.

The visitors took the lead after 22 minutes when Gyasi Zardes sent a floated cross into the box from the left side of the pitch. After a failed clearance from FCD, the second ball fell to Stefan Ishizaki, who chipped it over the head of FCD goalkeeper Chris Seitz with ease.

But the home side found an equalizer after 52 minutes when Texeira beat the Galaxy back four with a well-timed run and nice through ball from Andres Escobar before sliding it home.

The winning tally came three minutes from time as Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo parried a strike right back in front of his net, which allowed Castillo to nod it home on the volley for his 11th goal of the season.

Things became a bit nervy for Dallas in stoppage time as Moises Hernandez was shown a straight red card, but the hosts held on to punch their ticket to the postseason.
