Timbers, Rapids share the points at DSG Park
Sep 14, 2014 - 3:10 AM Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids shared the spoils at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw.Portland went in front just before halftime when Diego Valeri hammered a left- footed volley past John Berner. The Colorado 'keeper got his hands to the attempt but was unable to keep it from trickling into the back of the net.
The Rapids managed to pull level from the penalty spot as Liam Ridgewell's handball in the box allowed Dillon Powers to equalize on the ensuing spot attempt in the 48th minute.
Colorado then went in front in the 66th minute with Deshorn Brown capping off a well-worked move set up by Marc Burch.
But Portland would have the final say in the result as Gaston Fernandez tied it up 14 minutes from time off of a pass from Maximiliano Urruti.
The two sides remain separated by five points as Portland (8-8-12) climbs to 36 points to stay in front of Colorado (8-13-7).
