Higuain helps Columbus edge New England

Sep 21, 2014 - 1:37 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Columbus Crew took another step toward the Eastern Conference playoffs as Federico Higuain netted the lone goal in the club's 1-0 defeat of the New England Revolution on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, Ethan White was fouled in the 48th minute to help Columbus earn a free kick in the attacking third.

Higuain stepped up and delivered an inch-perfect shot into the upper corner for his 10th goal of the season as the Crew held on to retain fifth place in the East by improving to 40 points.

New England, meanwhile, sees its five-game winning run come to an end, leaving the Revs third in the East on 42 points.
