Texeira's brace lifts FCD over Seattle

Sep 25, 2014 - 3:05 AM Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - David Texeira scored a goal on either side of halftime to lift FC Dallas to a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday, giving FCD's playoff hopes a big boost.

Dallas entered the match in fourth place and having lost three of its last four fixtures. However, Texeira scored eight minutes into the match for the home side, and after Lamar Neagle's rocket of a goal in the 58th leveled the match, Texeira found the net again 12 minutes from time before Blas Perez capped the victory with a goal of his own in the 88th.

The win moves Dallas to within six points of leaders Seattle and Los Angeles, while the Sounders have lost back-to-back games and remain level with the Galaxy in the race for not only the Western Conference, but the Supporters' Shield.

Zach Scott threatened for Seattle in the sixth minute when he turned a corner kick just wide at the near post, but Texeira had Dallas in front just a few minutes later.

Andres Escobar set up the goal with a ball into the area for Texeira, who did the rest with a splendid half volley inside the far post.

Some good work between Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins set up a good chance for the Sounders midway through the first half, but Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez was up the task and he kept out Dempsey's shot.

Neagle entered the match in the 57th for Andy Rose, and he scored on a fantastic long-range effort just one minute later after taking a pass from Dempsey and being given too much space by the Dallas defense.

After helping set up the first goal for FCD, Escobar was at it again in the 78th when he beat three defenders and squared the ball to Texeira for a simple finish that restored the lead for the hosts.

Perez then headed home a cross from Michel to put the result beyond reach and strengthen his team's hold on a postseason berth.
