Techera helps 'Caps end losing skid

May 31, 2015 - 12:08 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Cristian Techera's goal in the 79th minute helped Vancouver Whitecaps FC to a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake at BC Place on Saturday.

Gershon Koffie and Javier Morales traded fantastic goals in the opening half, but it was Techera's first MLS goal that separated the sides as he took advantage of some confusion in the RSL defense to help the Whitecaps snap a two-game losing skid. RSL has now lost three of its last four games.

The Whitecaps entered the match having been held without a goal in their last two games, but Koffie nearly found the net in the 23rd minute when he hammered a shot off the crossbar from eight yards out.

He was given another chance in the 36th minute and made the most of the opportunity as a clearance fell to him 30 yards from goal and he unleashed a rocket into the top right corner of the net.

Kendall Waston went close with a header from six yards in the 41st as the hosts tried to extend their lead, but Morales came up with a blockbuster of his own to level the match on the stroke of halftime.

The RSL midfielder lined up a free kick 25 yards from goal and curled his shot around the wall and inside the right post past diving goalkeeper David Ousted.

Nick Rimando saved a shot from Octavio Rivero in a one-on-one situation, yet he was left frustrated in the 79th when defender Elias Vasquez took a ball off his chest and waited to Rimando to claim it, only for Techera to sneak in and score.

The visitors had a chance to steal a point in the dying moments of the game, but Alvaro Saborio sliced a shot just wide of the near post.
