Red Bulls tangle with in-form Sounders

May 29, 2015 - 6:41 PM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York will attempt to get things back on track on Sunday when the club hits the road to face the top team in Major League Soccer, Seattle Sounders FC, at CenturyLink Field.

New York enters the fixture having earned just one win from their last six games, including a 2-0 home defeat against the Philadelphia Union in the club's last outing.

The Red Bulls had the better of the chances in the first half, but the Union used second-half goals from Vincent Nogueira and C.J. Sapong five minutes apart to claim all three points, leaving goalkeeper Luis Robles and the rest of his teammates with a feeling of frustration.

"If you look at the first half, we hit the post twice. We were a little unlucky in the second half," Robles said. "I think it's just one of those games where things didn't go our way. I feel like we created chances, but I think the most frustrating thing was that we had too many half-chances that don't develop into really good chances.

"I know the guys are frustrated right now. It's a long season and there's going to be games like this. I think for us it's really important to not only watch the video and see where we made mistakes, but commit to the process of improving as a team."

Part of that improvement for New York would be to find a way to increase its offensive output as the club has managed to score just five goals over the past six games.

But that may be a difficult task against a Sounders team that is on top of its game defensively at the moment.

Seattle's 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday marked the team's third successive clean sheet and the club's seventh on the season, with goalkeeper Stefan Frei recording four saves in the victory.

"I think it's no small feat to get three shutouts in a row so I'm super stoked about that and really happy for the team," said Frei. "I think we even had chances to put the game away a bit earlier and let us breathe a bit easier, but we had good resolve defensively, bend and not break, and that's what we showed again today."

New York will also be up against a very good team at home as the Sounders have gone 4-1-1 at CenturyLink this season.
