Adi's brace helps Timbers topple Revs
Jun 7, 2015 - 4:39 AM Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Fanendo Adi struck twice in the final four minutes on Saturday as the Portland Timbers earned a nervy 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Providence Park. After a furious late rally last week to knock off the Colorado Rapids, the Timbers came into Saturday looking for a similar result, but the Revolution offered a stiff challenge for the Portland attackers.
Both teams traded quality scoring chances for the majority of the match before the home side finally broke the deadlock in the 86th minute.
Adi, who has struggled with his form of late, did well to get on the end of pass from Jorge Villafana and fire it in behind New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.
Just three minutes later Adi buried his second of the day, this time beating Shuttleworth off an assist from Alves Powell for his sixth goal of the season.
The result gives the Timbers their third consecutive victory and moves the club up to fourth place in the Western Conference, while New England remains in second place in the East.
